Raglan tailstock

The tailstock as supplied has no means of knowing how deep you have drilled. I have seen a Raglan tailstock spindle graduated with 1/8″ marks, which helps a bit. Mine is plain. A previous owner fitted a steel rule to the top of the tailstock, together with a pointer fixed to a clamp on the barrel. This worked, except when it fell off, got in the way or stabbed my hand

With the lathe came a couple of Boxford cross slide leadscrews and topslides. I scavenged a dial and thrust bearing from one:

The screw in the barrel has a pitch of 0.1″ making the dial a perfect match
