Raglan retracting cross slide

This was made by adapting the retracting topslide design by George Thomas in ‘The Model Engineers Workshop Manual’ – a bloody brilliant book

The mechanism uses the existing cross slide screw, dial, handle and so on, replacing only the casting. The handle beneath the leadscrew turns through about 110 degrees. It locks forwards by a simple over centre cam, and I have fitted a screwed endstop so I can use it when cutting internal threads (with the tool upside down, working on the far side of the bore)
